Meaning of HALAL

​

"halal" is an Arabic word meaning "permissible" or "lawful" as per Islamic law (Shariah). Opposite of halal is "haram", meaning forbidden in Islam.

 

In different contexts:

Food and Drink

Halal food is prepared according to Islamic dietary laws. For meat to be halal, the animal must be slaughtered in the name of God and in a specific way. Alcohol and pork are always haram (forbidden).

Finance

A halal financial transaction must avoid interest (riba), avoid uncertainty (gharar), avoid investments in haram industries (e.g., alcohol, gambling), be ethically conducted with transparency and fairness.

Cosmetics

Free from forbidden ingredients (e.g., pork-derived substances, alcohol)
